Spruces

In July everyone was heading down to Powell for a week. Because of baby J's heat intolerance/ Masto, we decided it wasn't the smartest idea. Instead we opted to head up to the Spruces for several days. John grew up camping there every summer and was super excited to go back with his kids.
We had the most secluded spot and while we were surrounded by people, we didn't really notice since they were a few hundred yards away. The boys brought their bikes and scooters and had fun flying around the loop at break neck speed (scared me to death). On Tuesday we hiked to Dog Lake and boy, what a hike! We were exhausted by the time we finished. We took Carson and Landon on this hike about seven years ago when they were just little guys and John had a butterfly land on his finger. Imagine the joy and surprise when Carson had one land on his finger. The boys are great hikers and baby J even did well. He took a short nap in the backpack, but was otherwise a happy little guy. We didn't spend much time at the lake since John was being eaten by bugs and we don't yet know what baby's J's reaction is to bug bites. We were both a bit nervous about a bite triggering anaphylaxis while being miles away from civilization so we ate a quick lunch and headed back down. So far bugs just stay away from Jameson and we believe it's related to his mostly organic, natural diet with very few processed foods. Interesting. We'll see how often he gets bitten as he transitions to more junk food as he gets older.
On Wednesday we took the boys down to Cowabunga Bay for a few hours, it kind of broke up the week and they had a great time. Unfortunately we didn't get back to the campground until 10:15 and the gates are locked at 10. Well, we had to park on the road and hike into our spot, in our jammies since we had showered at home. On the bright side, it was a gorgeous evening and aside from being cold it was nice walking in with no one else around.
Thursday we drove up to the Lake and wandered around a bit, then relaxed at camp.
Our first night camping was miserable. Jameson barely slept and I think I maybe got two or three hours that night. The next night was better when we had the idea to put him on the floor between the bed and the wall. This became his spot and he was content and happy to nap and sleep down there. He's like mom, loves to have a space that is familiar and all his own.
Katie and Kurt came up for a few hours on Tuesday, it's nice having friends who love the outdoors as much as we do.
We went for a hike and found an old outhouse. We took a lot of fun pictures there, but I'm only posting our family picture. We believe this is where campgrounds used to be since we found old water spigots in the bushes as well, plus if you looked carefully under the dirt and plants we could see there used to be a road. The boys thought it was such a cool adventure.
John and I bought several packs of glow sticks and a night we would play a game where we'd hide them in the bushes and the others had to find them. We got pretty creative in hiding, but since they glowed, obviously they were not too hard to find.
All in all it was a wonderful week and we were sad to pack it up and head home.
